What-if branches: trying an idea without ruining the board

7 seconds · no audio · recorded on a real case board

Open a branch, try the idea on the golden board, keep it if it holds and drop it if it dead-ends. The committed board never moves.

Every hard case reaches a point where the next step is a guess you want to test rather than commit. A what-if branch is that test: the board turns gold, placements inside it are yours to try, and dropping the branch returns the case exactly to where it was.

Up to four branches at once, each its own line of reasoning. This is the feature that replaces what the pencil-and-paper genre does with a rubber — and it is better than a rubber, because a branch that turns out to be right can simply be kept.
