The last suspect goes down, the accusation opens, and a correct verdict puts the killer behind bars.

A case does not end when the board is full. It ends when you name someone. The last placement opens the accusation, and you say who was alone with the victim.

That is the difference between this and a sudoku: the grid is the evidence, not the answer. A solved board that names the wrong person is a wrong solution, and on harder cases — where one suspect is an accomplice whose every statement is false — the board can be filled in a way that looks finished and is not.
